JJ's Story

From JJ's Healing Journey: Making Truly Fresh Food Accessible for Every Dog

In the online pet community, there’s one pup who has captured the hearts of many dog parents—JJ.
He’s become almost a "spokes-dog" for IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) recovery.
His story not only transformed one family but also ignited the future that Aurara Fresh Food Maker was inspired to create.

JJ’s Illness: From Soft Stool to Bloody Episodes
JJ has always had a sensitive stomach since he was young.
I’ve shared countless updates online: “First ER visit at 12 weeks,” “Soft stool again today,” “Unexpected vomiting in the middle of the night.”
Along the way, I documented symptoms, analyzed triggers, and tried every solution—switching kibble, probiotics, prescription diets, hypoallergenic formulas…
But when JJ turned one and a half, the most severe flare-up hit.
• Prescription food couldn’t control the inflammation.
• The only things he could keep down were a 1:1 ratio of sweet potato and potato.
• He even had bloody diarrhea.

Watching him whimper in pain at night, asking to go out, perpetually underweight with poor nutrient absorption—that feeling of helplessness is something only those who’ve been through it can understand.

Learning From the Pain: The Real Root of Digestive Issues
After hitting rock bottom, I decided to thoroughly reevaluate everything. I started learning the basics of animal nutrition:
• Studying the balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates
• Researching literature to understand IBD triggers
• Tracking JJ’s reaction to every ingredient
• Eliminating all possible food intolerances

I finally realized: For JJ, no commercial diet—no matter how expensive—could compare to food that was truly fresh and fully customized. So, I decided to make home-cooked meals for him myself.

Home-Cooked Meals Healed JJ—But Wore Me Out
JJ is a large-breed dog. One meal for him equals two to three days’ worth for a smaller dog. Preparing a week’s worth of homemade food was a massive undertaking:
• Shopping → washing → chopping
• Precisely weighing 10+ ingredients
• Mixing → cooking → cooling
• Adding nutritional supplements
• Portioning into 14–21 meals
• Freezing for storage
• Repeating the process weekly, taking at least 5 hours each time

One small mistake—like undercooked chicken, 20g too much potato, or 2ml less oil—could trigger JJ’s diarrhea again, ruining a whole week’s ingredients.
Countless times in the kitchen, I found myself wondering:
“Can’t large dogs eat fresh food every day?”
“Why does making a simple fresh meal have to be so hard?”

That’s when it hit me:
I wasn’t the only one who needed help—it was time to upgrade the entire “fresh food era” for dogs.
The reason large dogs couldn’t enjoy two freshly cooked meals a day wasn’t that they shouldn’t—it was because:
• Portions are too big
• It’s too time-consuming
• Most people can’t manage daily freshness
• Commercial fresh food still lacks true personalization
Dogs deserve better.
And dog parents deserve an easier way to show their love.
That’s when the idea of Aurara began to take shape.
